TIRE AND TRUNNION GRINDING

Grinding, (Commonly referred to as resurfacing), is our specialty

Don’t trust the most critical repair you make to just anyone!  Of all the services we provide, this is

the most critical repair for proper operation of your rotary vessel

Tire Resurfacing

Our personnel have many years experience operating very specialized equipment for tire and trunnion grinding. Our grinding operations provide precision surfaces that exceed industry standards.

We make resurfacing and alignment for you operations painless!  Our personnel work evenings, weekends or even holidays to get your equipment up and running!

Scheduled Resurfacing

Tires and Trunnions must be resurfaced (ground) on a regular basis to maintain proper  operational alignment of the vessel. A reoccurring cycle of 3 to 5 years is advised to maintain good surface contact of the rotating components.

Air gap – Poor Alignment

Wear profiles on the faces of tires and trunnions create conditions that cannot correct themselves or just be ignored.

Uneven contact surfaces, (concave, convex or taper), lead to a long list of catastrophic failures that occur within the vessel and it’s  components.

Uneven Wear Pattern

When Tires and Trunnions do not have flat surfaces across the faces, thrust (“float”) of the vessel cannot be controlled. See our Precision Two Phase Alignment page to understand why float is critical to your vessel’s operation.

Tire and trunnion faces will always mirror each other.    If the face of the tire has a concave surface, the supporting trunnions will have the opposite effect, or a convex profile surface.

Because these surfaces do not make proper contact, the vessel will not behave as it should and can be “stuck” in one position.   It is virtually impossible to properly float the vessel in this condition.

Tire & trunnion grinding is absolutely necessary for proper operation of the vessel

Wear Patterns Evident

We identify the need for grinding by visual inspection of the vessel. Observation of the vessel while rotating and stopped determine uneven wear patterns, thrust loads, and accelerated wear to vessel components.

Many times, what appears to be the problem is only symptomatic of the real issue. Tire and Trunnion grinding is the first requirement for proper operation of the vessel.

Minimal Effect on Production

When the vessel is not turning, its not making money!

In many cases, it is possible to complete resurfacing and alignment while the rotary vessel is in production. The time required to resurface the tires and trunnions doesn’t mean that productivity is compromised.

Discuss your operational requirements with us during our inspection visit, (it’s free).   We work with you to minimize downtime.  The Two-phase alignment is performed during the resurfacing operations, and does not normally affect operations, (See the Precision Two Phase Alignment page for more information).

Only after “YOU” are satisfied with the operation of the vessel, will the crew be de-mobilized

Specialty Grinding

Overhead Rail Grinding

When you have a “SPECIALTY” grinding requirement, RSC is only a phone call away.

We have extensive experience with all types of grinding applications.

Our technicians grind  thrust face on tires, flatten overhead rails for rotating tables, and many other complex grinding scenarios others simply cannot handle.

Years of experience, custom equipment, and absolute attention to detail provide you with the expertise needed for the most difficult grinding jobs.

Site Requirements

Our requirements for the customer are simple and clearcut:

Thrust Face Grinding

3 phase – 480V – 30 amp power; plant air @ 90psi; forklift dedicated to the crew; angle iron and “C” channel as required to build our grinding stands; vessel rotational speed reduced to 4-6 rpm;

That’s It!!!

We do everything else!  We are in and out within 3-5 days depending upon the condition of the tires and trunnions. Trunnion drive vessels take a little longer due to their special requirements. Our published quote addresses any exclusions and other requirements specific to the repair.

By the way, we build our own grinding stands on site with the materials you provide.  We don’t ask you to do something that we should be doing anyway.  Besides, how many grinding stands do you build on a daily basis anyway???

We commit to providing quality service to our customers. Whether for tire and trunnion grinding or any other type repair, RSC always works with our client for scheduled or emergency maintenance shutdowns.   We help you limit interruptions to the production workflow.

Our mission is to make the success of each client’s repair our own.
