It’s not always possible to install a one piece tire on a trunnion mounted rotary vessel. In some instances, Hoods, piping and other general mechanical arrangements may prevent placing the one piece tire on the vessel. There is an answer to this problem. Rotary Service Company, (RSC), engineers, manufactures and installs a four piece tire on your trunnion mounted rotary vessel.
It’s not necessary to remove components on the ends of the vessel that are difficult or impossible to move. Additionally, cutting the vessel in half to install a new tire isn’t necessary either. RSC provides four piece tires that withstand the rigors of nonstop usage. We engineer, manufacture and install new four piece tires.
RSC has just completed a project installing a new four piece tire on each end of a rotary furnace in southern Pennsylvania. The vessel has large flanges on both ends preventing the usage of one piece tires. Consequently, RSC was able to provide four piece tires to install on the vessel. The installation average the same time as installation of a one piece tire without having to disassemble or remove existing flanges or components of the vessel.
The new four piece tires were manufactured from ANSI 4140 materials, normalized and finished to a 250 RMS on all sides. Each tire section is match marked to ascertain correct assembly. Torque values are dependent upon assembly procedure. If assembled dry, the torque value is around 700 foot pounds. When lubricated, torque values increase to something over 900 foot pounds. Each tire is machined and finished to return to a consistent tolerance when disassembled and then reassembled.
One concern for four piece tires is the requirement to maintain the torque values of the studs and nuts that hold the tire in correct alignment with the segmented sections. Finally, the four piece tire is an acceptable application that can be used when it is not practical or possible to install a one piece tire.
